Emergencies
For police 190, ambulance 192 or fire brigade, dial 193.
Don’t expect Brazilian emergency services to speak English. Otherwise, be patient, speak slowly and clearly and, if possible, work out a few basic sentences in Portuguese.
Banks
Banks open early in the morning, around 10.00h, but close for the day at 16.00h.
Currency
The official Brazilian currency is the Real (R$).
Is tipping mandatory?
Tipping is a common practice at bars, restaurants and hotels. It is usually 10% (ten percent) of the total price.
